Manveer Singh Tamber

I am a PhD student at the Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, supervised by Jimmy Lin. Before starting my PhD, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo.
My research lies at the intersection of natural language processing and information retrieval, focusing on the safety, security, and robustness of generative AI and search systems. I study how malicious actors might exploit vulnerabilities in these systems and develop methods and evaluations to make them more resilient.
Why This Matters
AI systems, from chatbots to search engines, increasingly shape what we read and how we interact online, making their reliability and security non-negotiable. By exposing and addressing potential flaws, my research aims to help shield these systems from manipulation and misuse, building a safer and more trustworthy environment for everyone.
